Why Abu Dhabi deserves a spot next to Dubai — and soon, even Disney Abu Dhabi!
When most travellers think of the UAE, they picture Dubai’s iconic skyline, malls and desert experiences. But just an hour away lies Abu Dhabi, a quieter, calmer and highly underrated destination that offers world-class attractions, family-friendly theme parks, and some of the most beautiful cultural landmarks in the Gulf.
If you're planning a UAE holiday, here’s a 3-day Abu Dhabi itinerary that combines culture, adventure, theme parks, great food — and practical tips. Many of the clips in this guide were taken during our own family trip.
⭐ Why Abu Dhabi Is a Hidden Gem
Abu Dhabi is perfect for travellers who want:
-
Less crowds compared to Dubai
-
Incredible indoor attractions (fully air-conditioned — ideal for kids!)
-
New world-class theme parks
-
Beautiful beaches and cultural experiences
-
A slower, more comfortable pace
And with Disney Abu Dhabi officially in development and expected in the coming years, this emirate is quickly rising as the UAE’s next major family-travel hotspot. If you love theme parks, add Abu Dhabi to your bucket list now before it explodes in popularity.
🗓️ 3-Day Abu Dhabi Itinerary (Perfect for Families & First-Timers)
🌅 Day 1 — Culture, Architecture & Coastal Views
1. Corniche Beach Walk
Start your morning with a peaceful stroll at Corniche Beach. Wide walkways, blue waters, playgrounds and shaded areas make it perfect for families.
2. Lunch at Mandarin Oriental, Emirates Palace
One of the most beautiful interiors in Abu Dhabi. Whether you drop in for lunch or coffee, the ambiance feels luxurious without being intimidating. A great place for photos too.
3. Qasr Al Watan (Presidential Palace)
Magnificent architecture, light shows and a stunning library — Qasr Al Watan is one of the most beautiful cultural stops in the Middle East.
4. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
No Abu Dhabi itinerary is complete without this. The reflective pools, white marble columns, chandeliers and vast prayer halls are breathtaking.
🏎️ Day 2 — Thrills & Theme Parks on Yas Island
1. Yas Marina Circuit Karting
Perfect for both teens and adults. The track is smooth, well managed, and gives you a taste of what F1 drivers see.
2. Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi
Fully indoor and air-conditioned — a huge plus.
What to expect:
3. Yas Mall
Ideal stop for dinner and shopping before heading back. Plenty of dining options and kid-friendly spaces.
💡 Money-saving tip:
Book your hotels directly via the Yas Island website — each night stay qualifies for 1 free theme park ticket per person, which saved us USD 130 per adult (the regular price for a 2-day ticket).
We stayed at Otolo Homes, which is directly opposite SeaWorld and beside Yas Marina Circuit. Super convenient for families.
🐧 Day 3 — Full Day at SeaWorld Abu Dhabi (Highly Recommended)
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is one of the most impressive family attractions we’ve visited — and a must-do.
⭐ What we loved most:
-
8 themed zones
-
Touch Pool & Interactive Zone – kids can touch stingrays
-
Mermaid performances
-
Dolphin & sea lion shows
-
MicroOcean – indoor children’s rides and play areas
-
Polar Region Zone – our favourite
-
Adelie penguins (rare to see!)
-
Walruses
-
Puffins
-
Arctic foxes
-
If you liked Singapore’s newly revamped Oceanarium, they’ll love SeaWorld even more.
Allocate a full day — there’s truly a lot to see and do.
📱 Useful Apps for Tourists in Abu Dhabi & Dubai
Careem
Great for ride-hailing and even grocery delivery. We were impressed that they delivered a late-night grocery order at 11:30pm.
Yango
Our go-to app for ride-hailing (often cheaper than Careem).
Note:
-
Cancelling when the driver arrives = 12 AED fee
-
Changing drop-off point = 5 AED fee
Noon
A local favourite we wouldn’t have known without recommendations.
Super fast grocery delivery — often under 15 minutes!
🎉 A Special Note: UAE National Day (2 December)
If you’re travelling around early December, you’ll get to enjoy the vibrant celebrations of UAE National Day on 2 December.
The entire country lights up with decorations, flags and festive energy — a beautiful time to witness Emirati pride and culture.
🥳 Happy UAE National Day to all celebrating!
📌 Final Thoughts
